2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Mixed Feedback
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a clearer vision.
The president expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its promise to our audience.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. Following a period of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.
His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the recent years creating and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
The President
