Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
